Tuition for Distance Learners

Introduction

Elite Learning Centre is a SACAI accedited Distance Learning Service Provider that provides tuition for learners who wish to complete the FET phase (Grade 10, 11 and 12) of their schooling without having to attend main stream schooling. We also provide support services to distance learners and their parents.

The tutoring we offer is according to the requirements of the CAPS syllabus of the Department of Basic Education. We support parents and learners by completing all the administrative, documentation and recording requirements relating to continuous assessments, exams, learner portfolios as required by the assessment body - SACAI.

We employ a team of professional, highly motivated and committed tutors who believe in putting the child first and ensure that each student achieves to his full potential or goal.

We are a small learning centre. In all we do not take more than 50 learners across all grades. This allows us to work with individual learners or in very small groups. We strongly believe in independent learning. As tutors and educators we aim to teach the learners how to work diligently and efficiently without constant supervision and interference. Independent learning is when an individual is able to think, act and pursue his own studies autonomously. By using independent learning our learners fall into the process of university much easier than regular school learners as they are habitual in working independently. In addition, learners are taught and encouraged to self-study, manage their time better and to properly use a text-book. Tutors are always on hand to guide learners.

SACAI - South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute

In South Africa there are three routes to get a matric certificate. The most well-known route is through the Department of Basic Education. This route is used by the public schools. Then there is the IEB (Independent Education Board) which is used by private schools. The route we use is SACAI. SACAI is the route for so called ‘out of compulsory school homeschoolers’ now referred to as distance learners.

All of the above mentioned bodies fall under a regulatory body called UMALUSI. It is Umalusi that issues the matric certificate. Therefore there is no difference between the matric certificate given to a learner who wrote the matric exams under SACAI to that given to a learner who wrote under the Department of Basic Education.
